MOUNTAIN VIEW

CEMETERY

5455 FRASER STREET

City of Vancouver

Birmingham & Wood was commissioned to design three buildings and collaborate in the design of landscape elements as part of the upgrading of Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver. Our client was the City of Vancouver. We worked closely with the Manager of Mountain View Cemetery, Mr. Glen Hodges. The three structures include an administration building, landscape maintenance facility, and a memorial service building with associated functions. The Celebration Hall has become a popular venue for cultural events adding to the City’s roster of performance spaces.

The project process involved a public open house and numerous meetings with interested neighbourhood groups. We worked with a complex client group including members of the City of Vancouver Planning and Building Departments, and cemetery management. Birmingham & Wood prepared the functional programmes for the three buildings.

The consultant team was comprised of Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg;  Lees + Associates Landscape Architects and BTY Group Cost Consultants; Commonwealth Historic Resource Management Limited Heritage Consultants; Bush Bohlman Consulting Engineers, The RADA Group and Perez Engineering.
